Haiku's by Lesli

Sickness

Each day I hack and
Cough and snuffle the mucus
In my nose and throat

Cowboys

Chaps and hats, tight jeans
Riding broncos and bucking
Bulls. They are real men.

Sunset

She bows gracefully
At the end of the evening,
Welcoming the night.

Summit

Crowded halls. Strutting
Students mark territory
Like male dogs in heat.

Photography

Click of the shutter
Shift of the lens – focusing.
Artistic beauty.

Shoes

Patent leather with
Four inch heels raising me up
To over six feet.

The Ring

It has a wide band
With a single solitaire
One caret diamond.

Bills

They come every day
Except on Sundays and I
Let them pile on up.

Madness

Padded walls inside
My head, blocking the daylight
Of my clear thinking.

Happiness Is

Being my own boss.
Walking my own street. Going
Down my own pathways.

Haiku

A boy

There once was a boy
Walking around the high school
Inhaling bad smoke.

Haiku

Some people

There are some people
Walking on through camellias
And eating some soup.

Haiku

School

School’s fun just because
You’re here I would not be here
If you weren’t here.

Haiku

Down

Down to earth if your
Down for mine I’ll be there when
You need a friend me.

Haiku

SUMMIT TALKS

Summit high school is
Nothing but talk and it gets
Old just a little fast

Haiku

THE BIGGER THE UGLIER

It’s just so big and
It talks to me constantly
One guess what is it

Poem: Cell

While I’m sitting in this cell
it feels like hell,
I can’t even make bail.
I don’t even get mail,
I have a son, I know he is looking for mom while I’m gone,
but I will hold strong,
and mommas sorry for being a bad mom.
You come in with a big smile for mommas trial
and the judge looks at her file and your sol says no but the judge said sorry kid but momma goats to go.
I guess what I meant to say sorry son for being gone
and for not being a good mom.
I’m doing cool so I could get out and walk you to school.
They might only give me two more years
but I will be good to stop your tears.

Poem: My Rosary

“My Rosary”

As I walk on the concrete with 63 beads
And a cross around my neck
Just thinking of my future
And what to do next
The steps to take as the world feel like a maze
Got my head feeling twisted
And I got all this pressure building in my chest
And I know that this rosary is the only thing keeping me safe.

Poem: Another Day

“Another day”

Every day is another day.
But to me it’s insanity.
Every day is another day
But to me it seems the same, I feel the same way.
I always seem to hide the way I feel inside; I replace it by being happy,
Like if I was high on life.
Every day seems to be another day but when I look outside my eyes see the sky gray.
My heart dropped when my judge said no because he judged me by my race and because I gang bang.
But hey what can I do what can I say.
I did my time like it was nothing when go insane.
I just laugh and hold inside my pain.
Some people ask me why I gang bang some understand some walk away.
I’ve seen close friends pass away I hold it inside and let built up into hate and pain.
And wait for someone to take me to my grave.
“Every day is another day”

Poem: To My Sister

To my sister

Not even words can describe that what your doing is wrong .
I can’t get through you because you say I did it to.
Now you’re out there running around with out a clue.
I can’t make you change, but I can help you be straight.
Don’t follow my example and don’t play my game.

Poem: The Sun

The Sun

He wakes me up in the morning with a big burst of energy
The night was dead and cold
When I awake
I can’t wait to feel his fingers and hands
Running along my skin
Relieving my chills and goose bumps.

Poem: Music

Music

Music breaths deep into my soul
Form that first listen. From that
First strum from that first beat
I get energy form my head to my feet
It makes me disappear. In to the night and I don’t come
Back for the rest of my life
So in tell that first not. Until that first strum
I will breath I will live Until I can disappear into the music again

Poem: You Are the Reason

You are the reason

You are 80% of the reason
Why I wake up every morning.
The other 10 is to take a piss,
the other 10 is to take a shower.
You are the reason
for why I don’t walk away everyday.
You are the best!
My one and only reason
why.

Poem: It Never Works

IT NEVER WORKS.

The system thinks that it will help us
But the truth is it never works
It’s all a front,
When we get out we are still
Going to smoke that
Blunt
We make them believe our lies
Make them think
Their program is working
So we can get back home to the girls
So we can keep on flirting
We don’t want to change why should we
If we do the whole crew
Will put us to shame
I can’t let the homies drop me
So I will not change
The system will never work

Poem: How Long

How long

How long will he stick around?
Is he still going to be here tomorrow.
How far can I push him?
Will he keep taking it?
I try to leave but never seem to be strong enough to.
You can look into his eyes and see right passed the lies.
You know he won’t do anything to hurt you.
Will we still be friends after?

Poem: Falling

Falling

Falling from the sky
Falling so fast don’t know
What to do slowly falling from the
Sky posted with a parachute don’t now
When to pull but when I come close to hitting
The ground I pull then…. I wake up

Poem: Monkeys in a Barrel

Monkeys in a barrel

We all know monkeys
But what about monkeys in a barrel
If they can roll so can we
Unlike humans monkeys are stupid
That doesn’t know how to think
The monkey likes to roll in his barrel
Just like me

Poem: Colors

This color rhymes with you

and it’s on the sky

this color is tight

it could even get you to fight.

People calling you names

and if you not from the same color gang

you don’t got game

man it’s a shame

because at the end

we are all the same.

This color could kill you

and it could never let you see

the real you.

You don’t know what you feel

but you have to keep it real

in other to not get killed.

But at the end it’s just a game.
